

The Shoosh project is among those designs in which the focus was placed on the issue of the relationship between the architectural project and the city. Given the remaining space available to us in terms of footprint, an effort was made to move away from the passage typology and transform the project into a commercial one that establishes maximum connection with the city. Based on this idea, during the massing phase of the project, we created an open space toward Shoosh Street, and through this opening, a massing corresponding to this geometry was formed on the upper floors. Naturally, on the upper levels, the footprint decreases and develops according to the same geometry, giving rise to office spaces. From the transformation of this footprint, a terrace space emerges, which takes the form of an urban terrace accompanied by a restaurant function, corresponding with the same inviting V-shaped space at the entrance. The pattern observed through our field studies in the Shoosh district—and one that is quite common in terms of urban planning—involved the definition of large courtyards for loading and unloading, derived from this very typology. However, this pattern was realized through an adaptation based on the allowable footprint in this project. The material concept of the project, given that in most projects we consider a homogeneous structure that transforms itself according to the needs and logic of each design, similarly defines a homogeneous material of brick. This brick is used in the lower sections at the level of floor slabs, and in the upper section as a brick skin, which, through a set-back, creates a walkway behind which the glass facades of the office spaces are formed. This technique helped us prevent visual clutter—a potential issue in this district due to its office spaces—while simultaneously, this skin establishes the homogenization of the entire project with the lower floors. Another point considered in this massing is the avoidance of vertical light-well (void) structures at the scale of such projects. Instead, we employed massing/marking strategies that extend themselves into the interior spaces to transmit light, given the project's expansive area.
