Gorgan Residential Complex

The building envelope was designed to be flexible, permeable and adoptable to its surroundings. This façade tries to eliminate the common light well and internal void typology in residential buildings and to substitute them with irregular fractures on the façade. In order to fade the boundary between the city and the forest, the glazed ceramics on the façade were selected depicting colors from the four seasons of the forest. The combination of the green belt around the floor slabs with the traditional glazed ceramics on the façade is perfect for fading the building volume between the woods. Creating spacious yards for each residential unit was a principal in the organization of the building blocks. The project consists of four building blocks, each two of which connected on the ground floor and the basement levels. The connecting hallways are a combination of open and semi open spaces with natural air circulation. Each three residential unit have a private circulation core to create a good level of privacy for the residents. Speaking about a residential complex, it is crucial to consider sustainability as an important design intention. Factors such as reducing fuel consumption, recycling wastes, making use of renewable energy sources, providing passive lighting and ventilation, making use of gray water for flashing and watering greeneries, as well as proper isolations have all been considered in this project. The combination of nature and greenspaces with the living environment in this project has enormous impacts on the mental health of the residents. Moreover, natural ventilation, generous penetration of natural lighting, as well as the harmonized presence of materials, colors, and light improve the living quality of the residents.
